JavaScript JSON, acronym for JavaScript object notation, is a format for data storing and data transfer. This format is used when data is being sent from a web server to a web page.

Features of JSON:

• Refers to ‘JavaScript object notation’.

• It is light weighted data exchange and transfer format.

• JSON is language independent i.e. code for reading and generating JSON format data can be written in any programming language.

• JSON format is text based.

Rules for defining JSON data format:

• Contains name/values pairs.

• Data is in comma separated values.

• Objects are hold around curly braces.

• Arrays are hold in square brackets.
